Georgetown, Acton and the Hamlets Between

Halton Hills is a town of houses. In the 2021 census, 73.0% of its dwellings were single-detached, and 46.3% were built before 1981, including one in five from 1960 or earlier. The Town's heritage register lists properties across Georgetown, Acton, Glen Williams, Limehouse, Norval and the rural hamlets, so bathrooms here range from century-house conversions to 1990s family baths.

The water changes from one part of town to the next. Acton draws from three well fields and averaged 324 mg/L of hardness in 2025. Georgetown is mostly groundwater too, at 342 mg/L, but since November 2024 a section of town has been connected to Halton's lake-based supply at about 125 mg/L. Two Georgetown homes can now have very different water, which is worth knowing before choosing glass, faucets and a softener.

Outside the urban areas, homes rely on private wells and septic systems. Halton Region makes well owners responsible for maintaining and testing their wells and offers bacteria testing at no charge, and the Town charges a fee for septic maintenance inspections. Adding a bathroom on a septic system is a bigger decision than adding one on a sewer, so we look at the system before we design.

Halton Hills Bathroom Renovation FAQs

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Halton Hills?
Our pricing starts at $15,999 for a complete standard bathroom. Most Halton Hills family bathrooms cost $16,000 to $40,000, and primary ensuites typically $35,000 to $65,000.
Do I need a permit to finish the roughed-in bathroom in my basement?
Yes. Halton Hills lists completing a roughed-in bathroom and installing new plumbing as permit work, while installing bathroom cupboards alone does not need one. The 2026 inside plumbing fee for a house is $295.57, and we submit the application.
Is the water in Georgetown hard?
Most of Georgetown is on groundwater, which averaged 342 mg/L of hardness in 2025. Since November 2024, a section of town has been on lake-based water at about 125 mg/L, so we check which supply your street has.
Can I get Halton's backwater valve subsidy if my home is on septic?
No. Halton Region's basement flooding subsidies exclude homes on septic systems. Homes on municipal sewers can receive 50% of a backwater valve's cost, up to $1,600.
Can I add a basement apartment with a bathroom in Halton Hills?
On a fully serviced residential property, the Town allows up to two additional residential units, and a unit cannot be occupied until it is registered. We plan the bathroom to fit those rules.
